Black Lab Brands content combines firsthand product experience with research from reputable veterinary, scientific, and industry sources when appropriate.

We may use AI tools to assist with research, organization, and drafting. AI does not replace our experience, judgment, or review process.

Every article published by Black Lab Brands is reviewed for accuracy, relevance, and consistency with our real-world product and industry experience.

When an article discusses veterinary or health-related topics, we use reputable sources and distinguish general educational information from veterinary advice. Black Lab Brands content is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions, and questions about a dog's health should be discussed with a veterinarian.

Our Product Perspective

We've spent decades looking at pet products from the inside out.

That experience has shaped a few fundamental beliefs about how a dog bed should be designed.

The supportive foam mattress is the most important and typically the most expensive part of the bed. It's responsible for the bed's long-term support, which is why we believe waterproofing should protect the foam itself.

Covers should be washable and replaceable.

Individual components should be serviceable without requiring the entire bed to be discarded.

And because dogs and their needs change, a well-designed bed should be able to change with them.

These principles helped shape Black Lab's Fused Core™ waterproof mattress and our adaptable approach to dog bed design. They also inform the educational content we publish.

We don't recommend a feature simply because we sell it. Our goal is to explain why different materials, construction methods, bed styles, and features matter so dog owners can make informed decisions for themselves.

Ari Low

Founder & Product Designer, Black Lab Brands

Ari Low has spent more than 25 years designing, developing, and manufacturing products in the pet industry.

Long before founding Black Lab Brands, Ari designed and manufactured pet products for major retailers and established pet and outdoor brands, including Target, Petco, PetSmart, KONG, and Orvis.

He later founded a well-known DTC "Ballistic" dog bed company, where he served as both founder and product designer. That experience gave him years of firsthand knowledge designing dog beds, selecting materials, developing construction methods, working through manufacturing challenges, and seeing how those products performed in real homes with real dogs.

After selling that company, Ari eventually returned to the dog bed category with Black Lab Brands.

Black Lab was created to take everything learned over decades of product development and rethink what a dog bed could be.

That starts with protecting the most important and expensive component: the supportive foam mattress. Around that foundation, Black Lab has developed a system of washable, replaceable, and adaptable components designed to allow a dog's bed to change as their comfort needs, lifestyle, and environment change.

Ari's product-design experience continues to guide both the products Black Lab develops and the educational content we publish.

Our Commitment

We want Black Lab Brands to be a trusted resource for people trying to understand dog beds, not simply another company trying to sell one.

That means being clear about what our products do, avoiding exaggerated claims, using credible sources when expertise outside our own is required, and sharing what we've learned from decades of actually designing and manufacturing pet products.

If we don't know something, we'd rather research it than pretend we do.

And if there's a better way to build a dog bed, we'll keep working on it.
